Position Overview

Position Title: Customer Category Manager (CCM)

Location: Seattle, WA

Reports to: Customer Business Manager (CBM)

Specific Responsibilities

The Customer Category Manager (CCM) is responsible for managing the customer/category day to day operations while delivering sales and profitability targets for his/her account base. Maximize the availability of our products in the appropriate channels of distribution consistent with our brand strategy with an emphasis on superior new product execution. Execute consumer and shopper driven strategies for his/her customers that enable Newell Rubbermaid to achieve best in class results.

Utilize leading edge data, information systems, and metrics around financial, brand, and shopper trends to maximize market share, sales, and profits through price optimization for Newell Rubbermaid and our customers. Build customer relationships at the buyer and senior buyer levels and facilitates connectivity in other functional areas including Marketing, Supply Chain, Communications and Operations. Deliver results while maintaining the highest level of integrity. This role will have dotted line responsibility to the Customer Development Organization.

Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

The Candidate

  • Deliver sales and profitability targets.

  • Execute business objectives which will achieve e-originated sales growth across the account.

  • Build customer relationships across multiple areas at the customer’s organization, inclusive of, but not limited to Merchandising, Digital Marketing, Merchandising and the Social Channels

  • Support the digital forecasting process by assessing and making recommendations based off of rate of sale and promotional needs and goal in-stock levels

  • Execute consumer and shopper driven strategies for their customers in the digital channel – provide recommendation on how to tie to on-line through in-store levers

  • Use data, information systems, and metrics around financial, brand, and shopper trends to maximize market share, sales, and profits.

  • Provide analytical and presentation support for Customer Business Managers (CBMs)

  • Lead the Business Segment on the needs of the Customer.

  • Execute Customer & Category Strategic Development and annual operating plan.

  • Collaborates with eSegment Teams to provide and explain market data to the customer

  • Works with trade and the eSegment to implement methods that assist our customers in effectively and creatively winning with consumers, shoppers, end-users, and purchasers through promotions, packaging and merchandising.

  • Leverages our brands and product mix to improve profitability and meet customer, shopper, and Newell Brands targets


  • BS/BA or University degree in Business or similar field

  • 3 years of direct and hands-on experience in sales and/or trade in the e-Commerce Channel

  • Selling experience within consumer products, preferably across multiple brands

  • Experience with a minimum $10M book of business

  • Background in dealing with selling “the bag” of multiple brands across many categories

  • Willingness to travel 15-25% (alter by role)

  • Ability to operate independently given direction, and bring ideas and solutions to issues raised

  • Ability to analyze and assess organizational needs and provide solutions accordingly.

  • Interpersonal savvy; an ability to effectively work with and connect with all levels of employees across multiple functions and geographies.

  • Ability to motivate teams to produce desired tangible outcomes within tight time frames.

  • Strong project planning, tracking & organizing skills.
